My heart rate monitor is giving erratic readings or showing 00 on the display, what can I do?
Ensure the chest strap is run under water before every use, and that the strap is being worn firmly.
Also ensure you are following the transmitter maintenance steps found in the user guide provided with your unit. This includes disconnecting, cleaning and drying the transmitter and strap after every use.
If your transmitter has a user replaceable battery you may also want to try changing it if this hasn’t been done in the last 12 months or more, directions on how to do this are outlined in the user guide provided with your unit.
If you have a Wearlink transmitter, purchase a new wearlink elastic strap to use with your existing wearlink module.
If all of the above troubleshooting tips don’t rectify the issues, please contact the Australian Polar Service Centre for further assistance. Contact details can be found here
Can I use my Polar HRM in water?
Yes, Polar heart rate monitors are water resistant and can be worn in water environments. To maintain water resistance, do not press the buttons of the product under water.
**When measuring heart rate in water, you may experience interference for the following reasons:
-
Pool water with high chlorine content, and seawater are very conductive. The electrodes of the transmitter may short-circuit, preventing ECG signals from being detected by the transmitter.
-
The ECG signal strength is individual and may vary depending on the individual’s tissue composition. Problems occur more frequently when measuring heart rate in water.
-
Those Polar products that use 2.4 GHz (W.I.N.D.) transmission will not measure heart rate under water.
-
Jumping into water or strenuous muscle movement during competitive swimming may shift the transmitter to a location on the body where ECG signals cannot be picked up.
